35 Self Improvement Tips For Women
Can you believe it?! It’s almost time for that ball to drop again, and with a new year most often comes the mantra “a new me” right, but let’s be honest more times than not those gung ho goals are short-lived, and by mid-February many of us find ourselves losing steam. However, if you can commit to some small positive steps on a consistent basis they will add up to some big results at year’s end. This post is dedicated to giving you the best chance for success in 2021 because you deserve it! Here are 35 self-improvement tips
1.) Live in the moment– If you’re like me one of your worst habits can be overthinking. However, one thing I know for sure is that overthinking can kill the beauty of the present because it is connected with future events (that may never even happen). You must remember that each day is a gift, and practice gratitude each and every day to ensure you are aware of the beauty of NOW.
2.) Cut down on screen time– This is a great way to free your mind from all the things we are overloaded with each day. Emails, social media, news, and marketing are great to keep you up to date, or just provide a laugh but there needs to be a limit. One of my rules of thumb is that if you must utilize screen time throughout the day due to your career, etc. take small breaks as much as possible, and try not to look at a screen an hour before bed.
3.) Read personal development books– We have all the knowledge in the world available to us through hardcover and paperback. However, it’s a shame how few take advantage of it. Did you know that less than 53% of adults have read more than one personal development book in the last 12 months? Wowza! Don’t let this be you.
4.) Grow your confidence and self-esteem– This is one of my favorites because I coach on, and talk about this topic at great lengths. The reason for this is that what trying to work on self-improvement you must have a belief that a.) you’re worth it, and b.) be willing to act in spite of fear. Although this is easier said than done it is imperative that you get serious about this step because it will allow you to have great results with other things you attempt in life. 5.) Hydrate– Water has so many amazing benefits for your body. It can flush out toxins, improve the quality of your skin, and assist with weight loss. There are so many benefits to making this a habit. You can read those benefits here.
6.) Set a budget– Now I don’t just mean say what amount you cannot spend over for the month, but write down every single bill that needs to be paid, and the due date. You can use technology, an app, or good ol pen and paper, but the main thing is to get it out of your head. This will free your mind up from stress and worry and will allow your creative juices to flow.
7.) Invest in yourself– It’s a shame…we will give Starbucks 5 dollars for a latte frappe venti (I’m sure that’s wrong) but we will not take a class or buy a course that will allow up to either grow personally or improve our skillset. Often times we think of what we’re losing instead of what we have to gain, and it’s important to add up the costs if you do not improve yourself in a particular area. Got something you want to do that may cost you a few coins for self improvement? Start now.
8.) Monitor your thoughts– It’s important to stay in tune with what’s going on in your mind. If you’re constantly talking down to yourself or others or having negative thoughts, it’s important to notice that so you can change course!
9.) Get outdoors– I don’t know about you, but I always feel amazing after spending the day outside. I’m happier and more relaxed, and often it pushes me to get a good workout if I’m going hiking or swimming.
10.) Start a morning routine– Starting your day off right is so important, it truly sets the tone for the rest of your day.
11.) Declutter– When you are in an environment without stuff everywhere it clears your mind and allows you to focus.
12.) Subscribe to a positive podcast or youtube channel– It is so important to fill your mind with good practical life advice, and positivity. Subscribe to a channel that will offer you some, empowerment, insight, and motivation.
13.) Set personal boundaries– Listen, you are the only one who can draw the line in the sand for yourself. If you want to protect your mental health it is important to set boundaries and make it clear to others what you will and won’t tolerate in your life.
14.) Quit comparing– Comparison is the thief of joy. It will make you feel downright crummy about yourself if you let it. However, there is a big difference between admiring someone’s accomplishment, and wondering why it couldn’t have been you. Run your own race, and develop the skills you need to be the best version of yourself.
15.) Spend quiet time with you– The only way for you to gain direction, and insight about your life is to set a dedicated time to be quiet and still with yourself. Start small if you can’t commit to 30 mins right off the bat, that’s okay try 5-10 mins at first.
16.) Make sure your friends bring value to your life– Have you ever had a friend who was really negative, and you always found yourself feeling really negative after spending time with them? I feel like we’ve all had at least one person in our lives like that. We’ve all heard the saying, “you are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with”. Well do you really want to be more like that negative person, or would you rather learn from the positive people in your life? I know which I would prefer!
17.) Practice self-care– Self-care is so important to your overall wellness. However, it is a step that is many times overtaken by other things we deem important. You cannot pour from an empty cup! If you do not take care of yourself nothing will get done at all. Did you know there are actually 7 categories to self-care? Yup! You can check those out here.
18.) Keep a calendar– One thing I learned is that things won’t get done unless you schedule a time for them. Start a calendar with all of your daily, weekly, or even monthly tasks, and appointments. This will keep everything organized for you and top of mind.
19.) Embrace failure– Usually, we shy away from failure, and often don’t bother going after our goals because of our fear of failure. Instead, we should be embracing the fact that failure helps us to grow. When you fail, you learn important lessons that will help you the second time around.
20.) Finish what you start– Life is not about starting things it’s about finishing them. Commit to a plan and keep going until you get what you want.
21.) Meal prep– This is such a great way to ditch the overwhelm associated with eating healthy. Whatever diet you choose commit to making your meals ahead of time so you can stay on track, and spend less money on eating out.
22.) Get moving– whatever exercise looks like for you, get started. You don’t have to run a marathon on day one. Commit to taking a 30 min walk a few days a week, and increase your exercise as your stamina, and endurance grows.
23.) Get up earlier– Trust me would not be honest if I didn’t say I had fallen victim to this one a time or two. When you start your day off rushing or crunched for time it can cause unneeded stress for the remainder of the day. Give yourself enough to get up eat a healthy breakfast, and avoid a ticket getting off to work.
24.) Write a letter to your future self-What do you see yourself 5 years from now? Will you be the same? Different? What kind of person will you be? Write a letter to your future self – 1 year from now will be a good start – and seal it. Make a date in your calendar to open it 1 year from now. Then start working to become the person you want to open that letter.
25.) Take action– The best way to learn and improve is to take action. What is something you have been meaning to do? How can you take action on it immediately? Waiting doesn’t get anything done. Taking action gives you immediate results to learn from.
26.) Limit T.V– T.V can take up time for other important tasks you need to do. Although at times it can be a way to relax try to limit the amount of time you stay glued to the tube. Remember the more you watch the more you are helping others be successful instead of yourself.
27.) Set goals– My advice is to always have a big vision, and then to set small actionable daily goals that can get you there over time. This makes the goals setting monster a little less overwhelming.
28.) Step outside of your comfort zone– Life is too short to play small. challenge yourself to do some things that you’re afraid of.
29.) Find an accountability partner– Having a friend that has similar goals as you is a great way to keep yourself on track.
30.) Develop an abundance mindset– No more mindset of lack. It’s time to change your mindset to the possibility of phenomenal success!
31.) Learn to love and accept who you are– Being proud of yourself is such a great way to feel. When you commit to loving who you are and growing yourself personally this allows you to embrace your strengths and flaws. This will allow you to be easy on yourself when dealing with the challenges of life.
32.) Make time to nurture relationships– Life gets hectic we all get busy, and sometimes our relationships fall by the wayside. However, it’s important to make sure you keep those important relationships first place in order for them to continue to grow.
33.) Forgive– Forgiveness releases the forgiver from the frustration associated with it. It doesn’t let the other person involved off the hook but it gives the grudge holder peace.
34.) Pick your battles– Yep! do not make any time for unnecessary quarrels are conversations not worth having.
35.) Embrace change– One thing for sure is that nothing stays the same. No matter if you are currently in the valley or at the top of the mountain know that tomorrow is always a new day.
