The sweet smell of a successful life is something we all strive to obtain on a daily basis. However, there are so many things to consider when you are on your journey to achieving the successful life you desire.
You see we have been programmed by society to believe that a successful life must be the same for everybody. You have a nice house, a cool car, and have a corner office at some fortune 500 company…right?
Well, it may not be 100% wrong depending on what a successful life means to you. I am just referring to what we are urged to believe it is. Now, success can mean so many different things to each and every one of us, and that is the beauty of this world.
Heck if we all wanted the same things, and had the same passions we would be in a pretty boring world with limited resources. Wouldn’t you agree? So the beauty of success is that it is different for us all. Today we will discuss some of the myths about success, and what we can do to achieve the success we want.
Myths of what success is or how to determine it.
I’m sure you have heard many myths about success some you may not even know hold no truth! However, today we are going to expose them for what they are. According to its definition, a myth is a widely held idea that is actually false!
If you have believed yourself some of the things we will discuss don’t fret. I am here to open your eyes to a new way of thinking or enlightenment if you will. Everyone loves a good AH-HA moment. This is what gives life meaning. To be constantly growing and learning while challenging your current belief system… so here we go!
Myth #1- A successful life is a comparison between two people.
If you’re like me I believed this for the longest time, until I was enlightened by one of my favorite Pastors and speakers Dr. Myles Munroe. Here is what he said…
Success is not the comparison between what you have done and what someone else has done. Success is the comparison between what you have done VS what you are capable of doing.
Can we just have a moment of silence for this? Just for a second let’s just embrace the enlightenment.
Girl if this doesn’t hit home for you…it SHOULD!
We spend all day and night thinking about what we have in comparison to someone else. We even feel good about ourselves because we think we are doing better than some. Here is a little story Myles told.
One day I came home from school and showed my Mom a grade I had gotten on a test. I had the highest grade in the class and was proud of my success. My Mom looked at the paper and said you got a 69? I said yes the highest grade out of everyone. She then said boy you didn’t do a good job you just found 20 people dumber than you.
Myth #2- A successful life is one you pursue.
Nope! I think Jim Rohn said it best.
Success is something you attract by the person you become.
This is why personal growth is so important and POWERFUL. Whatever success you have achieved up to this point is in direct correlation to where you are on the personal growth (and action) spectrum. Do you want to have more? You must become more.
I know what you are thinking…HOW do I “become” more? Well let me first say this…becoming more does not mean you are not worthy right where you are now. You are amazing in all stages of life because you are you. “Becoming more” simply means honing in on all of the gifts you possess and developing them to their greatest potential.
Think of anyone you can imagine that you deem successful. They did not hold the conviction about their gifts as they do now. They identified their gifts and developed them consistently to become the person they are today.
They cultivated the seed until it became a tree. Mango seed is not yet a tree but it has everything inside it to become that if it is in the right environment with the right soil, and sunshine.
Myth #3- Success automatically means you got the green stuff.
Look, who doesn’t want the green stuff…right? I mean we all have dreams of grandeur about not needing it because we have plenty, but this is not the determining factor when it comes to success.
Being successful and living a life of fulfillment means answering your call and if answering your call means money comes too great! If not that’s okay because you are doing what you were designed to do which ultimately will make you fulfilled.
So we’ve covered some of the myths about success. Let’s talk about what things you need to be doing on a daily basis to attract the success you want because lets be honest…
Action creates attraction

Take massive action for a successful life.
Wanting it is not enough, you must go after it every single day. Do not sit back and allow things to happen to you. You go out and create what you want to see show up in your life.
You hold inside you the creativity that the world needs, but it is up to you to release it. No vision is too wild or too big to imagine. Think about the device you are reading this on right now or the car you drove to the office. Someone, at some point in time, had the thought about it and paired it with action to create a masterpiece.
You are too amazing to give an employer 8 hours a day and don’t give yourself the time you need to develop and grow into who you were created to be. Action is always the answer. No matter what you feel, take action now to create the vision you hold in your mind.
Pay no mind to discouragement.
One thing is for sure no matter what you go after in life you can be sure that something will try to stop you from your purpose. Discouragement has killed so many dreams it is ridiculous. Here is the truth. What your soul yearns for does not care about fear, discouragement, or setbacks. What you were truly put on this earth to do only cares about you obtaining it.
So when discouragement comes for you (and trust me it will) you must act like it is not even there. It’s just par for the course it’s the world fighting with your intuition on the inside.
True success comes from feeling discouragement and doing what you were meant to do anyway.
Be willing to let go of who you are currently in order to live a successful life.
This one right here! Whew!!! This is a tough pill to swallow because we live in a world where the land of comfortability is your friend. When in actuality that couldn’t be further from the truth. What you are truly meant to be like deep down inside cannot be achieved until you are willing to sacrifice who you are currently.
The reason for this is because if you keep on doing what you’ve been doing you will keep on getting what you’ve been getting.
You can not expect to go to a different level with the same thoughts, mindset, habits, as you have now. You cannot be like 99% of people who think it’s too risky to go for it and sacrifice ever living their dream. You must be different. You must be true to who you have been placed on this earth to be my dear.
Work your butt off!
Yep, you heard it right…work that tush off! Listen nobody ever said it was easy to become successful. The truth is it is really freaking hard, but you have everything inside you to make it happen. This means getting up early sometimes or even staying up late. It means saying no to “girls night” or passing on cocktails with friends. Whatever you need to do to do what you were called to do is 100% WORTH IT!
So, do the hard work, cry, stomp, whine, whatever you need to do to get through it and come out on the other side.
Get in touch with your courageous side.
I am always amazed when I see a woman relishing in her dream. There is a price to pay to live the life you desire that most people do not realize. Sure the price includes hard work and dedication but what about the emotions involved??
Our brain naturally wants to keep us from anything that could potentially hurt us, so we err on the side of caution (too much) when we step outside of our comfort zone and do something that involves risk our brain says DANGER, and we retreat.
Success takes courage. It takes courage to go for your dreams. Stepping outside of your comfort zone requires you to look fear dead in the face and tell it who is BOSS.
But if you have the courage to do it, and keep doing it over and over again there is nothing you can’t do.
A successful life requires you to believe in yourself.
Hopefully, you don’t need to see it in a fortune cookie before you actually do. However, if that’s what it takes for you to believe it than hey whatever works.
Look, we live in a world where people are going to always tell you what you can’t do. You must give yourself enough credit to believe you have the ability to do whatever it is you put your mind to…because you do.
Why not you? If not you than who?
You see we are all born into this world with the same functioning parts. Two eyes, two hands, two feet. The only thing that makes a difference is our circumstances. I have seen folks with all the potential in the world make nothing of themselves, and others with no talent or “silver spoon” become millionaires.
Babygirl, it is all about what you do with what is handed to you. Will you choose to believe that you have been put on this earth for more? Or will you accept what most people will say about you and live small to appease others? The choice is yours.
The fight is always in your mind.
This is the place where it always begins and ends…your mind. You see everything starts with a thought whether good or bad thoughts become things.
If you are not attracting what you want in your life at this very moment it’s time to dig into your thought patterns and figure out what it is you are putting into the universe.
The great news is that your mind is yours and YOU tell it what to do. Read this post on how to control your mind to get you started.
