So, you want that promotion eh? Or maybe you want to just inch your way a little closer towards the corner office. Heck! maybe you love your current position, but just want your co-workers to know how you expect to be treated. Whatever it is I know from personal experience that there are rules to gaining respect and exuding confidence at work. Now, these rules are easy to implement once you learn what they are. So here is my list of the 7 rules you must learn that will show you exactly how to be more confident at work.
1.) Do what they do, but be YOU!
Want to figure out how to be more confident at work? Find someone you work with that exudes it, and do what they do. As the old adage goes “success leaves clues.” and this is no exception.
If you see someone you work with that seems to always be “winning” or maybe they started at entry-level and are now senior management. Whatever their accolades are for Pete’s sake observe them!
They know the rules, and can lead by example which will make it much easier for you to be a success too!
However, it’s important to note that you want to observe them but always stay true to you!
This is not about becoming someone else. This is merely about mimicking the actions of a successful person at work while still being your authentic self.
Which leads me to my next point…
2.) Be a student but NEVER a follower.
Learn pretty lady, but never be a minion. No one exudes confidence by merely following the pack. You must learn the lessons, but then yourself become the example to follow. I will never ever write a post encouraging you to become something you’re not.
Be empowered! Learn the lessons you need to take with you on your journey and lead others in the same direction.
Follow the rules while being you, and you’ll never go wrong. This world is about creating more leaders to empower others not the other way around.

3.) How to be more confident at work? ASK!
Long gone are the days when folks will approach you with a promotion or opportunity out of the blue.
Now, if Suzy in accounts payable just up and quit, and they need to fill her role ASAP maybe.
Although if that’s not the case don’t hold your breath waiting for a conversation about your next big move…
You ASK! When you let people know your goals and what you want it is the epitome of a confident woman.
It is not only saying “I want to learn more”, but it is telling them that you are confident enough in yourself that if given the opportunity you can handle it.
Catch my drift?
So, if you have your eye on that new position, or a position is posted that you believe you can kick butt at, tell them!
However, don’t just tell anybody. Tell folks that can help you get it. There is nothing wrong with telling your BFF at work what your goals are, but if she is not in a position to help you your wants go nowhere.
One of the best pieces of advice I ever received was…
When asking for what you want talk vertically not horizontally. Talk to the person above you who can get you there. That’s where the magic happens!
4.) Fake it till ya make it.
Awwww Yeah! I’ve always been taught to go after what you want, and then figure out how to do it!
This is the truth because you will never be 100% sure in ANYTHING, and that’s the beauty of life. Trading perfection for progress, and having a belief that you CAN become great at something is all you need.
So, go after what you want and then dive into all types of resources to figure out how to do it best.
Eventually, you will become a pro if you challenge yourself to learn more each day.

So what if you’re already in a position of leadership, and want to learn how to be more confident at work?
So maybe, you’re a team lead, supervisor, or manager, and you feel as though you need to be more assertive to exude confidence. Maybe your team doesn’t follow you as they should?
So. what do you do?
5.) My Mama told me.
“You never let anybody do you any kind of way.” yep you read that right! You train people how to treat you. This goes for personal and business.
However, respect is also earned. People will more likely have confidence in you if you stick to your guns by the expectations you set.
What this means is doing what you say you will do, and being consistent.
Once people understand how you operate and observe that you are consistent with your expectations and decisions they will know exactly how to act.
If they don’t you must nip it in the bud right away so they get the point. Now this does not mean to treat people harshly, but it does mean to be straight to the point with your expectations, and not being afraid to say it.
which leads me to my next point…
6.) Stand up for yourself.
I don’t care what role you play at work this goes for the janitor all the way up to the department head. Nobody has to put up with disrespect from anybody!
However, if you are put in a position where you are called to the mat, then stand up for you BUT do it in a way that is tactful, and direct.
When you value who you are enough to be confident in sticking up for yourself this speaks volumes!
And everybody loves a woman who knows her worth!
7.) Stay in your lane.
This whole confidence thing has nothing to do with anybody else, and everything to do with YOU!
So, run your own race, and be more concerned with how you exude yourself than coveting others. You hold all of the power, and your confidence will shine from within.
So, putting all of this stuff together is easier said than done! You know what but HOW do you do it? I have a super exciting totally FREE resource just for you!
