I get asked all the time “How are you always so positive?” Although the truth is that I deal with everything a normal woman does ( and there ARE times when I ball out CRY) however, I don’t let it affect me longer than a few mins. I let my emotions out ( which is a CRUCIAL part of SELF CARE) and then I put my big girl panties on and get on with it. Now, I know this is easier said than done, and becoming a positive person is more than just forcing a smile on your face, and thinking positive thoughts.
I would be doing you a disservice if I said that was all it took! You KNOW I like to shoot it to you straight, and by all means, you DESERVE to hear the truth about becoming a positive person. Because being positive is a lifestyle, and believe it or not it is birthed by negative situations…Yep! Negative (you heard that right)
How the heck are negative situations the key to becoming a positive person?!
Okay okay, so I know what you’re thinking…”You’re telling ME that the key to being positive is negative stuff?!”… Okay, let me click out of this post now… BUT WAIT! hear me out, because I am going to bring some pretty cool enlightenment to you.
As humans, we are designed to flee from the possibility of pain. Although, there are times when this is useful like if a two by four is about to fall on your head. However, I am talking about painful situations where there is no imminent danger. This right here is the KEY to becoming a positive person. On the other side of pain and negative situations is where all of the beauty lies. That is where the growth is hiding. There are a few MAJOR reasons why this is, keep reading…
Pushing through negative situations makes us stronger in the future.
If you’ve ever been through anything tough enough and made it out on the other side then you know how this gives you confidence in your strength and capabilities.
So instead of going through life like a Debbie Downer, you can have confidence that “hey this thing in my life is happening to me right now, and I don’t like it but if I got through XYZ I can get through this too.”
Catch my drift?
This will automatically put a smile on your face because you know you will make it through regardless of what you’re up against.
Just imagine going through life with this mindset. It is absolutely life-changing to wake up every day saying no matter what happens to me today I know I am strong enough to get through it…because my dear you are! Anticipating success daily puts your mind in a state of positivity which is a great way to maintain the positive thought process.

Gaining strength from negativity helps us not sweat the small stuff and put life into perspective.
As the old adage goes… pick your battles. We are all guilty of letting the small stuff get to us and it’s one of the main reasons we go through the day stressed out, and thinking negatively.
Here’s a scenario for ya…
You have to be a work at 8 a.m and today unfortunately you overslept. You jump out of bed in a frenzy, rush, and put your clothes on, and run out the door.
Once you get in the car you realize your battery is dead, and the car won’t crank. You wait an hour for someone to come help you, and FINALLY get the car running, and are off to work.
Once you get to work you realize you left your phone, and your wallet. Just when you think your day couldn’t get any worse you realize the email you sent to your boss the night before went to your outbox…The moral to the story is your having a crappy day!
However, nothing that has happened is life-threatening, right? You have spent an entire day in a state of overwhelm and anxiety for stuff that is minute. Are you still breathing? Do you have eyes to see or hands to eat?
Lady, you are blessed! Realizing what you already have is a great way to put you in a positive state, and put life into perspective. Things could always be worse!
Becoming a positive person is easy when you gain hope from negatives turning into positives.
When I tell you that this one hits home for me, that is 100 percent FACTS! I have had many instances in life where I was out of options, and the only thing I was riding on was hope and a prayer. (which I now know is all I need)
Like the time when my husband and I both had lost our jobs, we were on the last week of unemployment (which we had to fight for), and unexpectedly got a check for eight grand.
Lady…I have no IDEA how this miracle happened even though we were in one of the most stressful situations in our life, and I had my son looking up at me expecting to still have 3 square meals a day and a roof over his head.
However, this set the stage for future trails. It gave me the belief that no matter what was going on in my life in instant things could be better. This is the way you must see things.
Maybe you haven’t had something change this quickly but I am sure you have gone through something tough and saw it turn around.
Remember what I’ve told you previously about life being cyclical? If not you can take a peek at that post HERE.
Gratitude cures all.
Yes, it does. When you go through each day being grateful for what is good in your life, it changes everything. No matter where you are currently just know that better things are always on the horizon. Even in your darkest hours, we all have something to be grateful for even if it is small.
Life is short my dear, and we must choose to live life in a way that is beneficial to us because we do in fact have a choice.

Until next time Lady…
